Eyelid correction

Indications for eyelid correction surgery

The procedure is intended to remove excess skin from the upper, lower or both eyelids and, if such a defect occurs, the so-called bags above and under the eyes (periocular fat hernia), as well as any wrinkles around the eyes. The procedure is often functional, because excess skin on a drooping eyelid can limit the field of vision. Eyelid correction can therefore be aesthetic and health-related

The course of the procedure

In the case of upper eyelid correction, the procedure involves cutting out excess eyelid skin in the shape of a whetstone. The incisions are made in the suprathyroid fold and above this line. The amount of skin to be cut out is planned with the eyelids closed. The wound is closed with delicate stitches

In lower eyelid correction, incisions are made below the lash line. The sagging skin is dissected, its excess is cut out with the eyes open, then the skin is sewn together with thin stitches. In the case of so-called bags under the eyes or on the upper eyelids, in the area of **the inner corners of the eyes, i.e. herniated periocular fat, its reduction is necessary. In cases of significant sagging of the lower eyelid edge or its eversion, a wedge-shaped excision of the ciliary edge is necessary, shortening and tightening the lower eyelid edge, or canopexy. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.

Postoperative course after eyelid correction surgery

Natural consequences include swelling, bruising and slight pain. Sometimes, in the first hours after the procedure, there is also slight bleeding from the edges of the wounds. This is because in the case of this procedure, no dressings are applied after the operation. During the first few days, the eyelids may be swollen, the lower eyelid and the outer corner of the eye may not fully adhere to the eyeball. These symptoms usually disappear within the next few days after the tissue swelling decreases. After the procedure, it is recommended to use moist, cold compresses with boric acid. The stitches are removed after 5 to 7 days. Normal appearance is achieved after about 10 days, and complete healing takes about a month. The final effect of the procedure should be assessed after this time.

Eyelid correction is a plastic surgery procedure that allows for the removal of excess skin from the upper eyelids. Why is this procedure performed* The element that most attracts the attention of another person in our face is usually the eyes. Every day we make eye contact with dozens of people and this is not without reason, because many non-verbal messages that our body is focused on receiving come from the eyes. The eyelids that protect our eyes are covered with very thin and delicate skin, which unfortunately loses its firmness with age. The formation of wrinkles in this area also results from facial expressions. The more dynamic the facial expression, the more wrinkles appear around the eye. Facial plastic surgery comes to the rescue , which allows for the removal of excess skin from the upper eyelids.
