Corrective rhinoplasty

The course of the rhinoplasty procedure

Depending on the need, incisions are made only in the middle of the nose or an incision is added at the base of the septum or the wings of the nose, correcting the cartilage, bone, septum, nasal conchae, nasal wings or a combination of these elements. The patient is operated on under general anesthesia, so a one-day stay in the clinic is required

Postoperative course

After the procedure, the nose is setoned (greasy tapes press on the mucous membranes with damaged vessels and support the cartilage-bone skeleton of the nose)

A rigid dressing (plaster, plastic or metal) is applied externally, which is intended to immobilize and shape the nose. The setons are removed after a week, the dressing after 10 days. Three dressings are applied during this time

After removing the dressing, the nose is swollen to varying degrees. There are often spectacle bruises under the eyes, which disappear after about 2-3 weeks

After the procedure, early complications may occur: persistent bleeding, hemorrhage, seton insertion into the throat, infection, nasal suppuration, and late complications: nasal deviation or formation of internal hypertrophic scars.

Effects after rhinoplasty

The normal appearance of the face is achieved after about 2 weeks, complete healing takes about 3 months. The final shape of the nose is achieved no sooner than after half a year. In the postoperative period (about 4 weeks), it is advisable to limit physical activity: avoid sudden movements, exertion and limit physical activity. Competitive sports can be practiced after 3 months.

Nose correction is performed for aesthetic and/or health reasons. The appearance of the nose can be improved or completely changed. The most common noses corrected are: humped, crooked, slanted, high, hanging, long, with hypertrophy of the cartilage part, saddle noses, with a deviated nasal septum, and occasionally cleft noses. The shape of the tip, the position of the wings or the size of the nostrils can be changed or the shape, length and size of the nose can be completely changed. In patients with nasal obstruction and breathing difficulties, a procedure to straighten or reshape the septum is performed.
