The course of the ear correction procedure

The procedure involves reducing the angle of the auricle in relation to the skull and restoring its correct anatomical pattern. Excess skin is cut from the incision behind the auricle, the cartilage is cut, appropriately modeled with sutures and fixed in the right position

Sometimes it is necessary to cut out a fragment of cartilage. Cartilage does not have the ability to grow back together, so its individual elements are permanently connected using non-dissolvable sutures. The skin is closed with thin sutures

The procedure is most often performed under local anesthesia, then the patient leaves the clinic after the procedure. The exception are small children, in whom the procedure is performed under full anesthesia and the patient remains in the clinic for the next few hours.

Recommendations after ear correction surgery

After the procedure, there is a lot of pain, swelling, redness of the skin, sometimes slight bleeding from the wounds. It is necessary to take oral painkillers. The stitches and post-operative dressings are removed on the tenth day after the procedure. For several weeks, the ears should be protected from injuries, overheating (hair dryer) and freezing. After the procedure, there is a noticeable decrease in sensation in the skin of the auricles. For at least two months, you should sleep with a headband on, which is intended to protect against accidental injury to the ears during sleep. For a period of approx. 3 weeks after the procedure, it is advisable to limit physical activity (avoid sudden movements and heavy physical exertion). For the first period after the surgery, hot baths, saunas and solariums should be avoided.

Corrective ear surgery aims to improve the appearance of the ears by positioning the auricle and possibly modeling undeveloped cartilage elements. Ears that stick out too much affect your well-being, are a source of complexes and reduce your self-confidence. The ear conch can be reduced, and its shape and angle of inclination from the head can be changed. Otoplasty is also performed on children over 5 years of age.
